This six-day luxury train journey commences at the foot of Table Mountain, Cape Town and ends at Victoria Falls home of the majestic Victoria Falls . Between the two destinations is an indulgent adventure on the Pride of Africa which includes 4 nights of luxurious accommodation on the train and one night of accommodation off the train in a Deluxe Pretoria hotel on a bed and breakfast basis, with transfers to and from Rovos Rail's private station in Capital Park . Off-train excursions during the journey include a stop in the quaint Victorian village of Matjiesfontein, a tour of the historical mining town of Kimberley, overnight stay in a Deluxe Pretoria hotel , Game drive in Hwange National Park..En-route, guests will be treated to Rovos Rail's legendary service, fine cuisine, and luxurious accommodation on a fully inclusive basis.

Cape Town to Pretoria and Reverse - The Old Karoo Pioneering Trail

For many visitors to South Africa, there is no finer way to see the country than on the popular 48-hour weekly journeys between Pretoria and Cape Town.

Cape Town offers a blend of cosmopolitan city life, magnificent mountains and superlative wine lands, while the twin cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg form the economic heartland of South Africa and the ideal departure point for Mpumulanga's world-famous Game Reserves.

This 1600-kilometre journey is a perfect illustration of South Africa as a world in one country. Travel the windswept grasslands of the gold rich Highveld to the haunting barrenness of the Great Karoo, the spectacular mountain ranges and scenic wine lands of the Cape to the Mother City of South Africa, Cape Town, cradled by the imposing bulk of Table Mountain, Devils' Peak and Lions Head.

Highlights of the north and southbound routes include a visit to the historic village of Mantjiesfontein. This authentic, perfectly preserved Victorian Village, which was founded by Mr. Logan as a refreshment stop in 1890, also boasts an impressive museum on the Station platform. A stop is also made in Kimberley with an opportunity to enjoy a city tour, the Mine Museum and visit the world's largest man-made excavation, the Big Hole.

The Blue Train has an aura of mystique about it. Kings and presidents have travelled on this magnificent moving five-star hotel. Its very name has become synonymous with the ultimate in luxury and personal service.

In ensuring that your experience is as reliable and sound as it is luxurious, safety and technical excellence are of paramount importance on The Blue Train.

All the suites, and every public area, are fitted with constantly monitored smoke detection systems. Two highly qualified technicians are always on board, and the trains are thoroughly serviced at the Pretoria depot after every return trip.

The Blue Train's suspension, braking, lighting and under-floor heating systems havebeen designed and customised with the guests' comfort as the primary consideration, allowing them to savour the experience of a Blue Train bedroom interior with luxury double bed smooth, pleasurable ride.

Every modern convenience, including a telephone service and a choice of digital entertainment channels, serves to make the journey all the more memorable.

Each suite has its own bathroom with either a shower or bath. There are two luxury coaches which both have three suites with bathrooms fitted with tubs. The other nine De Luxe coaches have four suites per coach. One of the four suites has a bathroom with a bath, while the other three have showers.

A butler pulls them out, already made, from a space in the suite wall, converting the lounge into a comfortable bedroom. White cotton sheets and down duvets are the standard linen throughout the train. Ten of the suites feature double beds on the first train, while there are nine on the second.

The dining car provides seating for 42 people. There are two sittings for lunch and dinner. Lunch is smart-casual, dinner is jacket and tie for the men and elegant wear for the ladies, while breakfast is casual.

The Blue Train Boutique allows the discerning traveller the opportunity to purchase 'treasures' at their leisure, from the best South Africa has to offer. Currently on offer is an exquisite selection of Wild Life jewellery designed and manufactured by internationally acclaimed designers.

There is a first-aid worker on board and contingency medical plans have been put into place should an emergency arise. There are also doctors on standby en route.

Pretoria - Cape Town - Pretoria

The route between Pretoria and Cape Town is a 27-hour journey of 1 600 kilometres (994 miles), through some of the most diverse and spectacular scenery offered by the African sub-continent.

On the southbound trip, the train departs from Pretoria at 8:50 and arrives in Cape Town just after lunch the following day.

En route to Cape Town there is a stopover and excursion in Kimberley, where we take a step back in time to the days of the diamond rush.

On the northbound journey, the train leaves Cape Town just before noon and arrives in Pretoria in time for tea the following day. It stops at the historic town Mantjiesfontein, where guests can visit the famous Lord Milner Hotel and the old car museum.
